On September 27, 2024, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Itire-Ikate Local Branch held a critical Sensitization Programme Against Drug and Substance Abuse, under the theme:
“Making Health Your New High Without Drugs.”
The program focused on raising awareness about the dangers of substance misuse and its devastating impact on individuals, families, and the wider community. It was a call to action for young people to embrace healthier lifestyles and reject the false allure of drug and substance abuse.
The success of the programme was made possible through strategic partnerships with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Airways Primary Health Care Centre. Their expertise and presence significantly enriched the event’s impact.
The event featured insightful keynote addresses from:
Medical Officers from Itire-Ikate LCDA
NDLEA Officials
Representatives from the National Orientation Agency (NOA)
These speakers provided compelling facts, real-life stories, and expert guidance on the health, legal, and social consequences of drug abuse. Participants also learned about available support systems and practical ways to promote mental and physical well-being.
The sensitization programme successfully educated youths on the harmful effects of substance abuse, while also promoting positive behavioral change. Attendees were encouraged to become ambassadors for healthy living within their communities.
By addressing this growing concern head-on, NYCN Itire-Ikate Local Branch continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, community health, and social responsibility.
Together, we are building a generation that chooses health, purpose, and progress over destructive habits.
Build the Youth. Build the Nation.
